Unlike many better-known names, Port Dundas built its reputation through blending rather than official bottlings, producing grain whisky on a large scale for major Scotch brands. That background is a large part of what makes older independent releases interesting today. Diageo announced plans to close the distillery in 2009, production ended in 2010, and the site was demolished in 2011, bringing nearly two centuries of whisky-making in Port Dundas to a close.
