About Millburn (silent)
(Mill-Burn) Millburn is a lost Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery from Inverness, with possible origins dating back as early as 1805, although whisky production does not appear to have begun at that time. It was the oldest of the three remaining Inverness distilleries that were all closed during the 1980s, alongside Glen Albyn and Glen Mhor.
Originally known as the Inverness Distillery, Millburn closed in the 1850s and became a flour mill before reopening as a working distillery in 1876. Millburn then ran steadily for more than a century until its closure in 1985, sharing the same fate as many smaller, old-fashioned Scotch whisky distilleries of the period.
Very little Millburn was released as single malt during its lifetime, making surviving bottlings highly sought after today. Rare Malts releases and independent bottlings offer some of the few remaining chances to experience this historic Highland malt.
