About Blair Athol
(blair-ATH-oll) Blair Athol was founded in 1798 by John Stewart and Robert Robertson in Pitlochry, originally opening as Aldour after the Allt Dour burn. The early distillery closed soon after, before reopening in 1825 under the Blair Athol name. It later passed through several owners, including Peter Mackenzie, before Arthur Bell & Sons acquired the distillery in 1933.
Production had stopped in 1932, and Blair Athol remained silent until a major rebuild led to its reopening in 1949. Now owned by Diageo, it remains closely associated with Bell’s blended Scotch, while single malt releases show a rich Highland style with malty depth, orchard fruit and a firm, weighty character.
