Ardbeg Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky (Old Bottling) 17 Year Old
Out of stock
This 17 year old example is now a rare and much sought after Ardbeg bottling.
Very different to most of the recent Ardbegs you may have sampled as it has a much lighter influence of peat smoke, in fact probably all too easy to finish a bottle without even realising!
Sadly this exact less-peated style may never be repeatable as some of the stock in this bottling is much older than 17 years old (or so the legend has it)
A more Kildalton style release that is so delicate yet still very complex but with the usual Ardbeg peat taking just a cameo role here.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Bright golden straw with pale amber highlights.
Nose
Soft and elegant, with a cloak of peat smoke that remains a whisper around lush tropical fruit, nettles and fresh herbs. Peppermint hints mingle with creamy sea-salted gooseberry, while a delicate, oily-tarry edge lingers in the background.
Palate
Fresh and spicy tropical fruit drives the palate, with waxy citrus and a whisper of salted seaside rock. Angelica and fresh garden herbs mingle with celery, all carried by a delicately light body where peat remains a soft, elegant undertone.
Finish
Candied peel and green mint tea give way to salted lime curd, herb garden by the sea, and a playful lift of seaside brightness. Ripe green fruit lingers with a dusting of white pepper, finished by a very subtle, elegant peat smoke.
