The 2016 Ardbeg Day special release. This is the Special Committee Only Release that is bottled at a different strength from the standard release. It is matured in ex-Bourbon casks and ex-Sherry casks. It is the "Darkest Ardbeg Ever" according to the label!
A real return to form and Ardbeg at its best with areal umami feel to this release and the extra ABV of this limited release for the committee only is going to be one very coverted bottle in the near future.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep, dark amber with mahogany edges and a bronze glow.
Nose
Explodes with smoky bonfire and barbecue notes—hickory and soy-marinated ribs and grilled mackerel. Charcoal soot and leather anchor the aroma, with squid ink, cured salami and tobacco delivering briny depth, while earthy fungi and a hint of meat stock/sherry reduction add richness and complexity.
Palate
Big, tarry and oily on the palate, it unfurls smoked mincemeat and dark bitter chocolate, with roasted oats and salami. Inky soy, five-spice and sweaty leather mingle with rum-soaked cigars, earthy mushrooms and a balsamic glaze, all carried on a briny peat backbone to a long, decadent finish.
Finish
Epic and long, the finish lingers with Chinese five-spice and sooty, tarry peat, ribboned with sweet Coca-Cola–marinated smoked meat, chewy raisin, aromatic tobacco, dark menthol chocolate, and squid ink cloaked in a touch of sweet sherry.
