Tasting Notes

Colour

Luxuriously deep amber with copper highlights and a warm mahogany glow.

Nose

Opulent sherry nose with dried raisins and figs, entwined with orange zest, toffee and vanilla. Oak brings cedar and dark chocolate echoes, while warm spice—cinnamon and nutmeg—lifts the aroma, inviting a luxurious, comforting scent.

Palate

Silky, medium-bodied palate, with sherry-rich sweetness and dried-fruit notes of raisins, fig and orange zest, plus toffee and toasted almond. Warm spice of cinnamon and nutmeg mingles with cocoa, finishing long and gently woody.

Finish

A long, warm finish with rich sherry sweetness lingering beside orange zest, dark chocolate, and toasted oak, with a gentle spice that slowly fades to a velvety end.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
