Tasting Notes

Colour

Golden amber with deep honey tones, edged in warm copper and a whisper of mahogany, a sunlit, refined glow.

Nose

Prunes with a touch of ginger and a hint of sherry open to perfumed notes of apple blossom and freshly baked hot cross buns studded with apple pieces and orange peel. Caramac bars add a creamy sweetness, while pear skin and vanilla linger over warm, sweet pastry.

Palate

Chopped red apple and sweet sultanas compete with maltiness and oak beneath the surface.

Finish

A long, signature Macallan finish: crisp walnut and chewy oak underpin a delicate sweetness of raisin shortbread, leaving a warm, resinous whisper of bakery spice that lingers on the palate.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
