Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep copper-amber with mahogany undertones and golden highlights.

Nose

Opulent sherry aroma with ripe raisin and fig, bright orange zest and brown sugar. Rich cacao, toffee and vanilla drift over toasted oak, while a subtle polished-leather note—reminiscent of the case—lends elegance. Warm spice lingers in the background, adding depth to the bouquet.

Palate

Silky and full-bodied on the palate, it unfolds with dark dried fruits of fig, raisin, and prune, balanced by orange zest, toffee, and dark chocolate. Sherry-spice notes of cinnamon and nutmeg mingle with creamy vanilla, while polished oak and a touch of leather lend a refined, lingering warmth.

Finish

Long, silky finish with orange zest, fig and toffee, tempered by warm spice and refined oak. The sherry influence leaves a gentle leathery dryness that lingers, fading into chocolatey caramel echoes.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
