Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with copper-gold highlights and a hint of mahogany, glistening like sunset over aged oak.

Nose

Caramel-sweet butterscotch leads the aroma, woven with ripe figs and dates, a touch of almond and polished oak. Milk chocolate richness rounds the mid-notes, finished by a soft, gentle floral note that lingers gracefully.

Palate

Silky butterscotch coats the tongue, backed by warming oak spice. A lively ginger lift mid-palate meets creamy vanilla, delivering a balanced, comforting sweetness.

Finish

A medium-length finale of ginger warmth and oak, where spice lingers with a refined, toasty oak echo that slowly fades.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
