Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with copper-gold sheen, a rich, mahogany-tinged glow that speaks of sherry influence.

Nose

Sherry-influenced aroma with rich dried fig and raisin, lifted by orange zest. Vanilla bean and polished oak weave through, joined by almond and cocoa. A touch of cinnamon and clove provides subtle spice, giving an elegant, warm, dessert-like invitation.

Palate

Silky, medium-full on the palate, with a soft oiliness. Dried fruits dominate—raisin, fig, and orange zest—balanced by toffee, vanilla, and cocoa. Subtle spice—cinnamon and nutmeg—meets toasted oak, finishing with a refined sherry sweetness.

Finish

Long, velvety finish with warm spice, dried fig and orange zest, subtly cloaked in sherry sweetness. Toasted oak and vanilla carry through, tapering to a refined, enduring sweetness that softly lingers.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
