Tasting Notes

Colour

A rich, coppery amber with ruby highlights and mahogany edges.

Nose

Rich sherry influence opens the nose with dried date, fig and raisin, brightened by orange zest. Underneath, vanilla, toffee and cocoa mingle with toasted oak, baking spice and a whisper of leather, all lending a luxurious, velvety depth.

Palate

Silky, medium-full on the palate, with sherry-kissed sweetness. Dried cherry, fig and orange zest mingle with dark chocolate, caramel and almonds. Velvet oak supports a measured spice of cinnamon and nutmeg, finishing long, warm and refined with a hint of coffee and tobacco.

Finish

Long, sumptuous finish with velvety sherried sweetness that lingers. Raisin and fig mingle with cocoa and orange zest, while soft oak spice dissolves into a warm, lasting glow.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
