A gentle, fruity and supple Speyside malt from the Speyburn distillery, bottled as part of the Conoisseurs Choice range. Matured in a single refill Sherry butt (Cask No 174) for 12 years and bottled, as usual, at cask strength. One of 634 bottles.

A fruity nose of baked banana, drizzled in honey and nut, The palate has pineapple, ginger and spice. The finish is gentle and slightly sweet. Rather pleasant indeed.

Rich amber with coppery-gold highlights and a whisper of mahogany.

Nose

Baked banana notes rise with honeyed sweetness and a subtle nutty richness, a bright, fruity Speyside aroma that hints at the Sherry maturation.

Palate

On the palate, pineapple leads with ginger and spice, a tropical and zingy chorus supported by cask-strength warmth. Silky yet vibrant, it finishes gently and slightly sweet.

Finish

Soft and lingering, the finish unfolds with a gentle sweetness that lingers, lightly seasoned with spice and fruit echoes, fading to a refined, warm finale.

Speyburn
(Spey-BURN) Speyburn was founded in Rothes in 1897 by John Hopkins, who built the distillery beside the Granty Burn and brought in Charles C. Doig to design a three-level site that worked with the steep valley rather than flattening it. Production began in time to fill the first cask before the end of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee year, and the distillery later passed to Distillers Company Limited in 1916. Speyburn then closed during the Second World War, when the site was used to house Scottish artillery regiments, before reopening in 1947.
