Tasting Notes

Colour

Golden amber with sunlit honey hues and a soft copper glow.

Nose

Sea-salted Highland malt with bright citrus zest and honeyed vanilla. Toasted barley and orchard fruits mingle with a whisper of sherry, adding subtle dark-fruit sweetness. Saline air and gentle oak give maritime depth, for a refined, inviting aroma.

Palate

Medium-bodied and lightly oily, it carries a coastal brine on the palate. Sea-salted caramel and honeyed malt lead to dried fig, prune and cocoa, with orange zest and gentle spice. The sherry influence broadens texture, finishing warm, toasty, and softly nutty with a lingering maritime sweetness.

Finish

Long, maritime finish with a gentle brine and lemon zest, unfolding into honeyed fruit and vanilla, then a warming kiss of oak spice that lingers softly.

Old Pulteney
(Old PULT-nee) Old Pulteney was founded in 1826 by James Henderson in Wick, during the height of the town’s herring boom, and for a time it was the most northerly distillery on mainland Scotland. Its history includes a long silent period after Wick voted to go dry under the Temperance Act: the distillery closed in 1930, prohibition in the town ended in 1947, and production eventually resumed in 1951. Later milestones include a major refurbishment in 1958, Inver House Distillers taking ownership in 1995, and the release of the now-iconic Old Pulteney 12 Year Old in 1997.
