Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with coppery highlights, a warm, sunlit gold that glows in the glass.

Nose

Delicate yet generous, the nose offers honeyed malt, vanilla and toffee, bright with orange zest and pear. Toasted almond and light oak unfold into a soft sherry sweetness, underscored by a whisper of spice and a faint maritime breeze.

Palate

Silky and balanced, with honeyed orchard fruit, vanilla and a soft malt sweetness. Sherry-cask notes bring dried apricot and raisin, intertwined with cocoa, orange zest and toasted almond, finishing with warm spice and gentle oak.

Finish

Elegant and medium-long, the finish releases honeyed sweetness and vanilla, with hints of orchard fruit. It drifts into soft oak and a pleasantly gentle spice, leaving a clean, malty echo on the palate.

(Loch-na-Gar) Royal Lochnagar was founded by John Begg in 1845 beside the River Dee, close to Balmoral in Royal Deeside. Earlier distilleries using the Lochnagar name had operated nearby, but Begg’s New Lochnagar is the site that developed into the distillery still working today.
