Macphail's Speyside Single Malt Whisky (Old Bottling) 50 Year Old
Out of stock
Probably the lowest cost entry into a 50 year old single malt Whisky available from anywhere in the world, and this ex-refiil sherry cask aged malt is a really fantastic dram and my be old but is far from past it!
Trying to decide which distillery this single malt actually comes from is part of the fun, great old fashioned Sherry cask aged malt which like an old Palo Cortado Sherry or Madeira still has plenty to offer after 50 years in cask.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with coppery highlights and a rich mahogany edge, a glow of aged elegance.
Nose
An aged-library scent mingles with sherry-bodega warmth: linseed oil, clarified butter, old leather and hayloft musk. Cadied peel, tobacco box, leafy smoke and a forest-floor undertone complete the aroma.
Palate
Buttery dried-fruit cake on the palate, with old cigar-box and tea-chest wood. Leafy, vegetal mid-palate meets savoury smoke and hints of beef tea or consommé. Leather deepens, then sherry-soaked sultanas reappear, carried by refined oak to a dry, earthy, lingering finish.
Finish
Holding together well for its age, dry and savoury but with enough buttery dried fruit and spicy oak to see it through to an impressive end with notes of leafy/earthy chestnuts and subtle aromatic smoke.
