Jefferson's Ocean Aged At Sea Voyage 17 Bourbon Whiskey 8 Year Old
Out of stock
This hugely popular Bourbon was the result of an unusual experiment that involved ageing the whiskey at sea. Every barrel has crossed the equator at least four times, visited five continents, and over thirty ports. The extreme temperature variations, gentle rocking of the ship, and exposure to salty sea air all have an influence on the character of this unique whiskey. The result has a rum like richness and sweetness, complimented by salty coastal notes that are reminiscent of whiskies from the Scottish Islands. A genuine one off!
Due to a massive demand from consumers, Trey has now commercialized this experiment and sent hundreds of barrels around the world. Each voyage of Jefferson’s Ocean typically crosses the equator four times, visits five continents and over 30 ports on an average sailing.
Founded in 1997, Jefferson’s is the brainchild of Trey Zoeller and his father Chet, a famed bourbon historian. They were continuing a family tradition that goes back to Trey’s 8th generation grandmother who was arrested in 1799 for the “production and sales of spirituous liquors.”
To personify the brand, they chose Thomas Jefferson—known for his curiosity and experimental spirit.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with coppery glints and a warm honey-gold glow, like sunlit coastal brass.
Nose
Salt-laced and maritime, this nose opens with sea breeze and brine, lifted by vanilla and caramel from the oak. Sweet tropical fruit and toffee mingle with a gentle rum-like richness, while wisps of coconut and dried citrus echo coastal winds. A coastal bourbon bouquet, polished by ocean air and sun-warmed oak.
Palate
Opulent and full-bodied on the palate, with rum-like sweetness, caramel and vanilla offset by a kiss of coastal salt. Rich toffee, dried fruits and subtle spice mingle with creamy oak, while briny sea-air whispers through the finish, delivering a long, salt-kissed maritime finale.
Finish
Long, maritime finish with a salted backbone and honeyed sweetness. Vanilla, caramel and toasted oak drift together as gentle sea breeze notes fade into a warm, resonant finish that lingers like a sunset over the horizon.
