Michter's 2025 Limited Release Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
In stock
Michter’s fills its new, fire-charred American white oak barrels at just 103 proof, considerably lower than the maximum permitted entry strength commonly used across the American whiskey industry. This approach requires more barrels and additional warehouse space, but allows a greater proportion of water to interact with the oak during maturation. The result is a rye whiskey with concentrated flavour, a rounded texture and a particularly well-integrated balance of sweetness, spice and oak.
Produced from a mash bill led by rye but supported by generous proportions of corn and malted barley, Michter’s Barrel Strength Rye follows the fuller and more approachable Kentucky rye style. Each barrel is assessed individually and bottled at its own particular strength rather than being diluted to a uniform bottling proof. Across the 2025 release, barrels ranged from 53.7% to 57.6% ABV, with this bottle presented at 55% ABV.
The nose opens with butterscotch, cinnamon and ripe cherry, accompanied by fragrant citrus, floral notes and warming baking spice. The palate is rich and enveloping, delivering toasted vanilla, dark caramel, toffee and concentrated fruit before pepper, cinnamon and seasoned oak develop. A long, dry finish brings together lingering caramel, rye spice and charred American oak.
Released only in limited quantities, Michter’s 2025 Barrel Strength Rye is an excellent choice for collectors and experienced American whiskey drinkers. Its depth and natural strength make it particularly rewarding served neat, although a small amount of water opens additional layers of fruit, vanilla and aromatic spice.
