Michter's 2024 Limited Release Barrel Strength Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
In stock
Since the 1990’s, the Michter’s team has been doing pioneering work to re-establish the high quality American Rye whiskey category. The May 2015 inaugural release of Michter’s US1 Barrel Strength Rye marked yet another milestone in that quest.
The Rye distillate is entered into the barrel at 103 proof, rather than a more industry standard higher proof. Barrel entry at a lower proof of 103 rather than a higher proof costs Michter’s more money in terms of barrels and warehousing, but they believe it yields a richer, smoother, more full-bodied whiskey after proper maturation. A single barrel product, each barrel of Michter’s US1 Barrel Strength Rye is bottled at its particular alcohol level at the time of bottling. The majority of barrels in the releases range from 107 to 112 proof. To savour it is a unique experience for anyone who enjoys rye whiskey.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with copper-gold glow and mahogany undertones.
Nose
Vibrant aromas of toasted rye grain weave with rich vanilla and caramel, underscored by baking spices and cracked pepper. Oak shows through with char and toasted wood, while citrus zest hints brighten the nose, hinting at the barrel-strength depth to follow.
Palate
Opulent and full-bodied, this barrel-strength rye unveils rich vanilla, toffee and dark caramel, braided with bold rye spice—pepper, cinnamon and clove. Silky, slightly oily on the tongue, it leans on toasted oak and nutty notes, finishing long and warm with integrated sweetness and a refined, lingering spice.
Finish
Long, barrel-strength finish with a warming wave of rye spices—pepper, cinnamon, and clove—unfolding over toasted oak. Vanilla and caramel echo from the mid-palate as dark fruit and cocoa drift in with the heat slowly fading. A savory, resinous oak bite lingers, leaving a drying, rye-driven tingle that invites the next sip.
