Starting with a punchy rye whiskey, Michter's further age it in casks that have been toasted rather than charred.
According to Michter’s, the use of toasted wood in conjuction with their barrel strength US1 rye was twofold, “to enhance the spice character in the rye while adding hints of dark toast and smoke.”.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with coppery glow and mahogany hues, a warm, toasted-oak depth.
Nose
Pastry-forward and richly boozy, this rye leads with cinnamon and marzipan, bold and lingering. Whiskey-soaked cherries appear, with hints of red-and-white candy canes and nutmeggy egg nog—like a holiday dessert table poured into a glass.
Palate
A sweeter-than-expected rye on the palate, brown sugar and baked-spice notes weave with toasted oak. The heat is tamed into a creamy, dessert-like profile, finishing port-like with lingering spice and a subtle, smoky edge.
Finish
Long, warming finish with dark toasted oak and a whisper of smoke, inviting rye spice—cinnamon, clove, nutmeg—to linger against a brown-sugar sweetness. The cask-strength heat softens into velvety dryness, leaving a refined, port-like echo that beckons another sip.
