Heaven’s Door Exploration Series is all about pushing the boundaries of whiskey craftsmanship. With the guidance of the Heaven’s Door Master Distiller, the series explores new finishing methods to create unique limited-time offerings, enriching the whiskey experience.
The series’ debut is deeply rooted in French influence, with carefully incorporated elements of product, wood and technique. Its foundation is comprised of Heaven’s Door’s award-winning Tennessee Straight Bourbon whiskey, finished inside freshly dumped Calvados brandy casks. An additional layer of complexity is then introduced through medium-heavy toasted French oak staves.
Calvados, an apple brandy from Normandy, France, matures for at least two years in French oak casks before those casks are filled with Heaven’s Door Tennessee Bourbon. This imparts sought-after characteristics such as fresh apple cider and baked apple brandy. The new medium-heavy toasted French oak staves, sourced from Quercus petraea trees, offer excellent aroma, medium ellagitannins and high oxygen permeability.

Deep amber-gold with coppery highlights and a sun-bronze glow; a rich honey hue that darkens to mahogany at the edges.
Nose
Bright apple and fresh cider lift the nose, intertwined with baked-apple notes and a kiss of Calvados sweetness. Toasted French oak adds vanilla, spice and a faint almond, while the bourbon’s caramelized fruit and orchard brightness round out a refined, inviting bouquet.
Palate
Bright orchard fruit on the palate—fresh apple cider and baked-apple notes—lifted by creamy bourbon sweetness. Vanilla, caramel and toasted French oak spice mingle with cinnamon and nutmeg, delivering warmth. The finish echoes apple brandy with a delicate oak kiss and softly restraining tannins.
Finish
Long and elegant, the finish unfolds with crisp apple and orchard fruit, lifted by Calvados sweetness. Fresh apple cider deepens into baked apple and subtle brandy-spice, whetted by vanilla and a whisper of toasted French oak. The warmth lingers, creamy and honeyed, with a silky tannic edge from the staves, fading into a refined orchard finale.
