The first of two new releases that celebrates the seasons on the Isle of Orkney, where Highland Park is made. This bottle, The Dark, focuses on the autumn and winter seasons, while The Light – due to be released in 2018 – will symbolise spring and summer.
The Dark is a 17-year-old single malt that has been matured in sherry casks, giving it aromas of dried fruits, nuts and herbs that continue into the palate, where they are joined by distinctive notes of smoky peat.
The Dark has been bottled in a limited edition of 28,000.
A big and bold Highland Park and as the name may suggest a dark and brooding expression and for me a real return to form.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Cinnamon sticks, pine and ginger rise with a warm, spiced brightness, while layers of chocolate-chip cookie dough and fruitcake add a luscious sweetness that hints at the sherry-driven richness beneath.
Palate
Plump raisins and roasted coffee beans, with light wisps of heather-y smoke appearing later on.
Finish
Mint chocolate ice cream, prunes, almonds and forest floor richness.
