In stock
Distilled in 1988 and bottled in 2020, this 31-year-old Glenrothes was released by Wemyss Malts as part of their single cask series. Matured in a sherry cask for over three decades, the cask yielded 583 bottles, bottled at 46% ABV. As with all Wemyss single cask releases, the name “Patchouli And Sandalwood Oil” reflects the distinctive aromatic character found within the whisky.
Glenrothes Distillery, founded in 1879 in the Speyside town of Rothes, is known for producing a rich and elegant style of malt, often characterised by orchard fruit, warming spice and subtle sherry influence. Long maturation in sherry casks can bring out deeper notes of dried fruit, polished wood and gentle sweetness, creating a complex and mature profile.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Rusty copper.
Nose
Deep sherry influence yields a rich, antique bouquet: dark cherry and currants with ginger cake spice. Earthy undercurrents give way to polished wood as patchouli and sandalwood oil emerge and linger, evolving gracefully with time in the glass.
Palate
There are layers of complex flavours that shift, develop and evolve with every new taste. Orange oil, stewed red berry fruits, sweetened rye bread, caraway, heather and rich wood influences. Give this whisky plenty of time!
Finish
The finish is long and lingering with dark fruits and cigar like tannin.
