The first Irish Whiskey to be distilled in County Mayo in over 150 years, Connacht Batch 1 is a small batch, double distilled Single Malt made from 100% malted Irish barley. It has been patiently matured for four years in ex-bourbon casks, before a final finishing in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Rich amber with copper-gold glow and mahogany undertones.

Nose

Aromas of sun-kissed raisins and dried fruit lead into a honeyed sweetness, with notes of fudge, butterscotch, almond nuttiness and a delicate whisper of star anise.

Palate

Vanilla and spice support a core of dried fruits and malt, delivering a warm, well-rounded palate with gentle sweetness.

Finish

A warming, full-bodied finish that lingers with walnut notes and honey, leaving a soft, nutty sweetness on the palate.

Connacht
Connacht was founded in 2013 and opened its distillery in Ballina, County Mayo, in 2015 on the site of the old Duffy’s Bakery, bringing distilling back to the county after 150 years. The distillery stands on the banks of the River Moy near Ireland’s west coast, and the site was set up to handle milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, maturation and bottling in one place.
