Whiskey production began in 2016, and the distillery’s own single malt became the first whiskey produced in Mayo in more than 150 years when it was released in 2021. Connacht uses 100% Irish malted barley, double and triple distils in small batches, and matures its whiskey on site. Master distiller Robert Cassell designed the distillery’s custom copper pot stills. The business was acquired by Terroirs Distillers in 2024, and the distillery was rebranded as Ballina in 2025.
