Cardhu 2019 Special Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky 14 Year Old · 2004 Vintage
Out of stock
Distilled in 2004 and bottled in 2019, this 14-year-old Cardhu was released as part of Diageo’s annual Special Releases collection, a series that highlights unique and limited bottlings from across their distilleries. The 2019 edition carried the theme “Rare by Nature”, with each whisky in the series presented with distinctive nature-inspired artwork. This release yielded 4,860 bottles at 55% ABV.
The whisky was matured in ex-Amontillado sherry seasoned hogsheads, an unusual cask choice that adds nutty depth and subtle sweetness while allowing Cardhu’s naturally elegant Speyside character to remain at the forefront. Cardhu Distillery, founded in 1824, is known for producing a smooth and honeyed style of malt that plays a key role in the Johnnie Walker blends but also shines in limited single malt releases such as this.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Burnished gold with warm honey-amber depth and a whisper of coppery glow.
Nose
Dry, soft and gentle on the nose, it opens with a richly fruity first impression: orchard pears, peaches and cherries in syrup, with a trace of banana. It grows floral, hints of lily of the valley, and a touch of vanilla cream. A drop of water tames it slightly, revealing an even sweeter fruitiness.
Palate
Naturally smooth and creamy on the palate, with an immediate sugar-sweet fruit core—soft fudge and orchard pears, peaches and a hint of banana. A delicate perfume lingers into mid-palate, then warming spice builds toward a drying, lingering finish. With a drop of water, sweetness returns first and a trace of salt signals the spiciness reappearing.
Finish
Spicy, with a lingering, embracing warmth that coats the palate. With a splash of water, it becomes smoother but the spice endures, leaving a pleasant dryness on the tongue.
