Nose

Peat smoke rises with a briny, coastal breeze—iodine, sea spray and ash mingle with bright citrus. A whisper of vanilla and oak adds warmth, polish and lingering sweetness that promises a refined maritime depth.

Palate

On the palate, cool medicinal peat opens with sea-salt brine and sun-warmed oak. Silky smoke lingers with citrus zest and vanilla, then reveals iodine-tinged minerals and gentle spice. A restrained sweetness supports a crisp, maritime finish that lingers with coastal warmth and refined smoke.

Finish

A long maritime finish clings with sea-salt and peat smoke, evolving into a delicate sweetness of citrus zest and vanilla, finishing with a poised note of oak spice.

Caol Ila
(kowel-EEL-ah) Caol Ila was founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson near Port Askaig on Islay’s east coast, overlooking the Sound of Islay between Islay and Jura. Its Gaelic name refers to that stretch of water, and the site was chosen with access to sea transport and a water supply from Loch nam Ban. Ownership changed early, passing to Norman Buchanan in 1854 and then to Bulloch Lade & Co in 1863.
