Buffalo Trace Experimental Collection - Made With Rice Whiskey 9 Year Old · 2002 Vintage
In stock
Who would have thought that America would produce the first rice grain based Whiskey and not Japan (who to my knowledge have never released a single whisky made from Rice in the Uk?) Corn and malt are also used in the mash but the rice gives a real syrupy/stock syrup feel to this small batch experimental whiskey from Buffalo Trace (they are not allowed to call it Bourbon as it is not made from at least 51% corn) Notes of melon, runny honey, apricot breakfast bars, cherry, menthol and gentle spiced oak.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Luminous amber with honey-gold sheen and a coppery edge.
Nose
Juicy melon and runny honey lead, unfolding into apricot breakfast bars, bright cherry and cool menthol. A whisper of spiced oak frames a subtle, syrupy undercurrent from the rice-based mash, lending the nose a refined, teasing sweetness.
Palate
Silky, syrupy on the palate with a lightly viscous mouthfeel from the rice. Melon, runny honey and apricot breakfast-bar sweetness mingle with cherry, cushioned by menthol and a touch of gentle spiced oak. The finish lingers with warm spice and a faint cereal sweetness, unfolding slowly.
Finish
Long, syrupy finish with a rice-driven sweetness that coats the palate; melon, runny honey, apricot and cherry linger, while a cool menthol lift rides atop gentle oak-spice, leaving a softly sweet, lightly spiced echo.
