At the time of release, this was the oldest official bottling of Brora ever produced. Brora single malt was rarely bottled in the distillery's lifetime, but exceptional posthumous releases can still be found, albeit in diminishing quantities. This moderately peated release is astonishingly complex and remarkably savoury, offering flavours and aromas of spicy oak, cured meats, kipper, earth, and tar, alongside some bold, sweet fruits.

Tasting Notes

Nose

A complex, savoury nose of spicy oak and peat smoke, with cured meats, kipper, earth and tar, all brightened by bold, sweet fruit notes.

Palate

Savory, peaty richness unfolds on the palate. Spicy oak and briny smoke frame curing-meat and kipper notes, while earth and tar lend a mineral bite. Bold dark-fruit sweetness—fig and plum—gleams beneath, guiding a long, peppery finish.

Brora (silent)
(BRAW-ruh) Brora was founded in 1819 by the Marquess of Stafford, later the Duke of Sutherland, and originally operated as Clynelish. The present Clynelish distillery was built next door in the late 1960s, after which the original site was reopened in 1969 and renamed Brora. During the early Brora years it produced a heavily peated style for blending, before gradually returning to a lighter Highland character.
