Strathclyde has spent most of its life working behind the scenes as a large-scale grain distillery rather than as a widely promoted standalone brand. Its sweet, lighter grain whisky plays an important role in blends, and Chivas describes Strathclyde single grain as running through the heart of its whiskies. That background is also part of what makes independent bottlings appealing when they do appear, offering a rarer look at a distillery whose influence is usually felt more than seen.
Today Strathclyde is part of Chivas Brothers, within Pernod Ricard’s Scotch whisky business.
