Cask Strength Single Cask Distillery Bottling

The result of a multi-million-pound investment, the Bonnington Distillery was commissioned in 2019 and began production in march 2020, with an estimated 2,200 casks per year. It is the first single malt distillery in Leith, Edinburgh, for nearly 100 years.

This inaugural release is a rich, rose gold in colour, with notes of sweet malt combined with poached pears, creamy caramel and candied ginger. A long, sweet finish carries hints of gentle spice from the Ruby Port cask.

All 502 bottles of this super-limited release are hand-signed by Distillery Manager, Jamie Lockhart.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Rich rose-gold, warm and luminous with a sun-kissed glow.

Nose

Sweet dessert wine notes, hints of pear, dried fruit, subtle citrus and rich oak.

Palate

Sweet malt with creamy berries and poached pears, layered with caramel and candied ginger; a gentle spice lingers on a long, smooth finish.

Finish

A long, sweet finish carries hints of gentle spice from the Ruby Port cask.

Bonnington
(BON-ing-tun) Bonnington was commissioned in 2019 and began production in March 2020 on Graham Street in Leith, close to the historic John Crabbie & Co. whisky business. It was the first single malt distillery in Leith for nearly 100 years, bringing whisky production back to an area once strongly associated with bonded warehouses, blending and export. During construction, archaeological remains linked to old fortifications and Bonnington House were uncovered beneath the site, later inspiring the distillery’s citadel-style icon.
