Matured in the finest hand-selected ­first-­fill Oloroso sherry casks, this 40 year old single malt delivers rich ginger and stewed fruit aromas. Seville orange, red apple and demerara sugar followed by a citrus zest ­ finish.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Vibrant citrus aromas mingle with ginger, stewed fruits and cinnamon, a touch of dark fudge. Rich beeswax polish notes emerge, with a hint of aged oak.

Palate

Intense Seville orange flavours gives way to red apple with underlying spices. Demerara sugar and a soft herbal flavour lead to charred oak.

Finish

Medium-bodied, citrus zest and oak.

(ben-ROM-ach) Benromach first opened in 1900, and is situated next to the railway line in Forres, about 25 miles east of Inverness on the main route to Aberdeen. Like many distilleries that opened around this time, the distillery survived until the 1980s, but with many changes of ownership and extended periods of closure.
