Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep coppery amber with a warm mahogany tint.

Nose

Opulent dried-fruit aroma of raisins, figs and currants, enriched by sherry and toffee. Bright orange zest, vanilla and cinnamon blend with polished oak, a hint of almond and subtle smoke, recalling festive Christmas cake and warm, comforting depth.

Palate

Silky, medium-bodied on the palate, with velvety sweetness and warm spice. Rich dried fruit, fig and raisin mingle with toffee and dark chocolate, lifted by a hint of orange zest. Sherry-derived tannins carve a gentle dryness, balanced by creamy vanilla and oak. Finish long, with hints of clove and gentle oak, and a lingering Christmas-cake warmth.

Finish

Long and decadent, this finish drapes the palate with sherry-soaked fruit—raisins, fig and orange peel—rounded by almond, cocoa and warm spice. Velvet oak lingers as a gentle sweetness fades to a refined, festive glow.

Bell’s traces its roots to Arthur Bell, a Perth wine and spirits merchant who began vatting malt whiskies together in 1851 to create a more consistent blended Scotch. The “Extra Special” trademark was registered in 1895 and later appeared with the Bell’s name in 1904, becoming the basis of the long-running Bell’s blend. Blair Athol, founded in 1798, became closely tied to the brand after Arthur Bell & Sons acquired the distillery in 1933.
