Ardbeg Macbeth Act One - Witches Series - First Witch Single Malt Scotch Whisky 19 Year Old
In stock
A collection of forty-two different whiskies from the length and breadth of Scotland, selected and bottled by Livingstone in partnership with Elixir Distillers. Each whisky represents a character from the Tragedy of Macbeth by William Shakespeare, with illustrations by Sir Quentin Blake and character notes by Dave Broom.
The First Witch is one of four smoky whiskies in The Witches series.
We’re launching with a smoky Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky aged 19 years for the First Witch - this is a fantastic example of a distillate I adore with quite a rich maturation. As we develop The Witches, we’ll embrace the blending analogy with the fourth release, Hekate, ruler of the witches, as a blend of the first three.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep burnished copper-gold with mahogany-tinged edges and a warm, honeyed glow.
Nose
Layered peat smoke leads the nose, buoyed by medicinal coastal iodine and sea-salt. Sherry-matured fruit notes surface as fig, raisin and date, intertwined with espresso-dark cocoa, vanilla and toasted oak. A waxy, leathered depth lingers, delivering briny complexity and a refined, age-softened smokiness.
Palate
Richly oily and full on the palate, the First Witch delivers a commanding wave of maritime peat, smoke and tar, tempered by velvety sherry sweetness. Dried fig and dark plum mingle with cocoa and espresso, while crackling spice and a touch of leather echo the oak. A long, warming finish with mineral salt and sea-air returns peat and polished sweetness.
Finish
An enduring finish of coastal peat and medicinal smoke, carried by sea-salt tang and wisps of iodine. The warmth unveils brine, burnt citrus rind, and peppery spice, tapering to a lingering ash and charred oak fade.
