Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep amber with a velvety copper glow and mahogany-red edges, hinting at sherry influence and a luxurious, aged richness.
Nose
Peat smoke sweeps over sea-salted air, with medicinal iodine at the core. Sherry-matured sweetness unfolds—raisin, fig, and orange zest—woven with cocoa, leather, and toasted oak. A refined, expansive nose that is smoky, maritime, and enticingly dry, hinting at age and depth.
Palate
An enveloping palate of maritime peat and medicinal smoke, balanced by rich sherry sweetness and polished oak. Velvety and vibrant, with notes of dark chocolate, fig and toffee, a touch of leather and spice. The finish is saline and resinous, the peat lingering as a warm, smoldering echo on the tongue.
Finish
Long, smoky finish that sails on a briny breeze, with coastal peat, iodine and ash lingering on the tongue. Sherry-softened fruit—raisins and dried fig—emerge briefly before the oak and subtle spice tighten the palate, leaving a warm, peppery glow. The finish slowly fades into a velvet, resinous smoke, echoing Ardbeg’s maritime character.
