The St. Drostan's Well, found in the grounds of the Aberlour Distillery, marked the source of an exceptionally pure spring. This historic granite stone hints to an ancient past when a druid community occupied the small valley where the Aberlour distillery is found today. Indeed, the name Aberlour comes from the Gaelic translation of 'Mouth of the Chattering Burn'.

This site in Aberlour was the inspiration for James Fleming to build a disilery in 1819. A quiet, unassuming man, James Fleming was a philanthropist in the truest sense of the term and his unobtrusive generosity left a lasting mark on the village of Aberlour. He lived up to his family motto "Let the Deed Show" which appears on the bottle today. The purity of the spring water and richness of the natural environment drew Tounder is reflected in the generosity of this exceptional Speyside whisky.

Aberlour Single Malt achieves a remarkable harmony marrying subtle aromas of spice - cinnamon and nutmeg - with hints of autumn fruits. Aberlour has been recognised at the International Wine and Spirit Competicion and has three times been awarded their prestigious gold medal.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep mahogany-amber with coppery edges and a warm, sunset-gold glow.

Nose

Warm and inviting, this nose unfolds with cinnamon and nutmeg, balanced by ripe autumn fruits—apple and pear—brightened by a gentle sherry influence. Subtle oak and a refined sweetness linger, revealing a poised, harmonious spirit.

Palate

Velvet and refined, it opens with warm spice—cinnamon and nutmeg—paired with ripe autumn fruit, dried raisin and fig. Sherry-influenced sweetness glides into toasted oak, vanilla and a hint of cocoa, delivering a rounded, creamy texture. A long, warming finish lingers with spice and fruit in balance.

Finish

Long and refined, this finish lingers with cinnamon and nutmeg spice that evolves into dried autumn fruits. Sherry-cask richness coats the palate, leaving a warm, oak-kissed sweetness and a quiet, elegant fade.

Aberlour
(aber-LOW-er) Right in the centre of Aberlour village next to the banks of the Lour Burn the Aberlour distillery sits. In Gaelic Aberlour means “Mouth of the chattering burn”. Sadly in 1898 most of the Aberlour distillery was destroyed by a fire, however this led to the distillery being rebuilt and improvements made in the 1920s, after the second World War, the 1960s and also during the 1970s.
