Waterford Heritage Goldthorpe Single Malt Irish Whiskey

Goldthorpe barley is a heritage crop that traces its origins back to 1889 in Yorkshire, England. It was introduced into Ireland in the early 1900’s and is tall-strawed, wide-eared barley variety. It has not been used in the distillation for whiskey in over a hundred years.
This Goldthorpe variety was harvested in 2019 and distilled in 2000, and now Waterford Whisky have released the resulting whiskey as part of its Heritage barley series.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Rich golden amber with a warm, sunlit glow.
Nose
Barley-forward with subtle zesty fruits and light leafy notes. A warm breadiness grounds the nose, with husks, porridge and honey interwoven with pot ale, while bright hints of orange, cured lemon and tart berries linger.
Palate
Thick, oily and mouth-coating, it carries a peppery kick with warm apple sauce, ripe bananas and gingerbread, anchored by a hearty breadiness and a slightly dry finish.
Finish
Medium-length finish of rooty, earthy, grainy pear notes, with a subtle herbaceous lift and a lingering hint of fennel.
