Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep copper-amber with mahogany undertones and a luminous burnished-gold glow.

Nose

Opulent sherry dominates the nose, unfurling dark plum, raisin and fig with apricot brightness and a whisper of orange zest. Rich cocoa and coffee nibs mingle with polished oak, while warming notes of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg weave through caramel-toffee. A velvety, syrupy density suggests the cask strength, finishing in a long, refined sherried perfume.

Palate

Opulent and full-bodied on the palate, this 19-year Macallan in a sherry cask reveals a syrupy core of raisin, fig and orange zest. Dark chocolate, cinnamon and clove spices entwine with polished oak, delivering a warm, velvety texture. The finish is long, elegant, with coffee, toffee and lingering spice.

Silky, long finish with deep sherry sweetness and restrained spice. Raisin and fig linger alongside orange zest, dark chocolate, and cinnamon, fading into warm oak and a whisper of coffee. Elegant, persistent, and glossy with refined maturity.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
