Every cask of exceptional single malt whisky maturing at The Macallan Estate has its own personality, with little nuances which make them unique.
From time to time Macallan's whisky makers come across casks maturing in their warehouses which stand out from the others in a very particular way. These hand-selected casks are a rare and special discovery.
Rare Cask is created from oak casks which exhibit incredibly rich, smooth complexity, highlighted through a sweet raisin note. These rare casks of The Macallan have an entirely natural deep ruby mahogany colour, and an intense and highly complex flavour profile.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep ruby mahogany colour.
Nose
Soft vanilla and rich raisin form the opening flourish, then a bright fusion of fresh apple, lemon and orange rises, bringing creamy sweetness and a citrus-kissed linger.
Palate
An intense sweet raisin dominates before giving way to vanilla and dark chocolate, with layers of light citrus zest.
Finish
Long, rich and velvety, the finish lingers with opulent raisin sweetness, wrapped in vanilla and dark chocolate, with a final wink of citrus zest as warmth slowly fades.
