Tasting Notes

Colour

A deep copper-amber, glowing with warm mahogany undertones.

Nose

Opulent, sherry-driven notes with dark dried fruits—prune, fig, raisin—woven with orange zest, vanilla and toffee. Rich oak, cocoa, and a whisper of spice (cinnamon, clove) mingle with almond and leather, suggesting a luxurious, aged Speyside profile.

Palate

Velvet-smooth and generously sherried, this Macallan unfurls with dark fruit and orange zest, raisin and fig, layered with toffee and a touch of cocoa. Spiced by warm oak and a whisper of ginger, it coats the tongue with elegance, balanced by crisp alcohol and a long, decadent finish.

Finish

Long and luxurious, the finish coats the palate with waning ribbons of dried fruit, orange zest and dark chocolate, carried by warm oak and soft spice, finishing with a gentle, sherried resonance that lingers.

The Macallan
Macallan was founded by Alexander Reid in 1824 on the Easter Elchies Estate above the River Spey, and it was one of the first distilleries in Scotland to become legally licensed. The name comes from the older place name “Maghellan”, combining the Gaelic magh for fertile ground with a reference to St Fillan, who was associated with the church that once stood on the estate. Easter Elchies House, which remains central to the brand’s identity, dates from around 1700 and still sits at the heart of the estate.
