Tasting Notes

Nose

Malt forms the quiet backbone, rising with sun-dried apricots, zesty orange peel and toasted almonds. A citrus-bright, inviting aroma hints at the orange wine finish and promises a refined, elegant palate.

Palate

Walnuts and honey anchor the palate, with ginger spice and bright stone fruits weaving through a warm, nutty sweetness that lingers.

Finish

Lingering spice and tangy orange with an almost otherworldly edge.

The Gauldrons is Douglas Laing’s Campbeltown blended malt, created as part of its Remarkable Regional Malts series. Released in 2017, it completed the range by representing Campbeltown, one of Scotland’s smallest whisky regions and a place with a long distilling history. The name comes from the dark, stormy coves on the west coast of Kintyre near Machrihanish, where “The Gauldrons” is often translated as “Bay of Storms”.
