Even peatier than the whisky called ‘The Peat Monster’ - the staple peated Blended Malt Scotch Whisky in the Compass Box range - the resulting blend is massive in terms of the intensity and complexity of flavour; a whisky brimming with complex peatiness, but tempered with hints of fruit character and an underlying sweetness.
The Actual make up of this blended malt is a mystery but let us try and shed some light on the single malts that go into this limited release of only 15,000 bottles for you:
75.5% From a distillery on the Pier Road/Islay (Ardbeg?) aged in re-charred American oak
10.6% From a distillery in Port Askaig (Caol Ila?) aged in refill American oak
13.4% From a distillery in the village of Brora (Clynelish?) aged in re-charred Hogsheads
0.5% From a mystery Highland malt blend aged in heavily toasted French oak (Clynelish/Teaninich/Dailuaine)
A bonfire-like smokiness on the nose with a peatiness that is by turns tarry and medicinal with hints of autumn leaves. A powerful smokiness and peatiness follow, accented by hints of ripe cherries, plums and spice.
I have many favourites from the Compass Box range but this could be my new favourite and easily the most peaty of them all, simply stunning piece of blending on show here.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep copper-amber with a molten-gold sheen, edged by a hint of mahogany at the rim.
Nose
Bonfire-like smoke on the nose, a tarry, medicinal peat with hints of autumn leaves, then a bold wave of smoke and peat, accented by ripe cherries, plums and spice.
Palate
Powerful, tarry peat leads, with sun-warmed sweetness and a medicinal edge. Thick, smoky campfire and iodine rise, while dark fruit notes of cherry and plum peek through. Spices—cinnamon, clove—linger as the whisky moves to a long, creamy finish, edged by oak and a whisper of pepper. A monumental peat-forward palate with surprising fruit lift and a velvety mouthfeel.
Finish
Long, smoky finish of embers and tar, gradually softening into medicinal peat. Footnotes of autumn leaves, ripened cherry and plum cling to the palate, with warming spice unfolding as sweetness lingers and the smoke slowly fades.
