Out of stock
The Islay Barley series has always been a mission. For many years now Bruichladdich sought to showcase the phenomenon of “terroir” in Single Malt Whisky – the belief that soil, climate, micro-climate, geographic orientation, natural influences and local weather systems will influence the quality and flavour profile of the spirit, making it a unique expression of ‘place’. Bruichladdich Islay Barley 2012 is distilled from barley grown on eight western and central Islay farms in 2011.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Golden amber with honeyed copper highlights.
Nose
Coastal air carries sun-warmed Bruichladdich barley with honeyed malt, biscuit and almond. Sherry notes deliver dried orange, raisin and cocoa, while a whisper of peat smoke and sea-salt frames the aroma. A touch of vanilla and toffee lifts the sweetness, yielding a refined, terroir-driven nose.
Palate
Silky yet robust on the palate, this Islay Barley opens with creamy malt and a whisper of coastal peat. Citrus zest—orange and lemon—brightens caramel sweetness, while vanilla and oak add warmth. A delicate sea-salt brine and subtle spice lift the middle, leading to a long, maritime finish with lingering peat, salt and gentle sweetness.
Finish
Long and refined, the finish carries a maritime tilt—briny sea air and faint peat—settling into citrus zest and warm vanilla. The sherry influence lingers as dried fruit and cocoa notes emerge, wrapping the palate in a silky, enduring sweetness that fades to a nutty, mellow finish.
