Bruichladdcih's Islay Barley range has always been produced in the belief that soil, climate, micro-climate, geographic orientation, natural influences and local weather systems will influence the quality and flavour profile of the spirit, making it a unique expression of ‘place’.
Bruichladdich Islay barley 2011 is distilled from barley grown on six western and central Islay farms in 2010. This has been matured in 75% ex-bourbon American oak casks and 25% ex-wine European oak casks.

Tasting Notes
Colour
Golden amber with a warm, honeyed glow and a whisper of copper, enriched by the wine-cask touch.
Nose
An overtly floral and fruity nose, abundant with soft fruit notes and a delicate floral style, reflecting the Islay-grown barley and the slow distillation that preserves its light, luminous character.
Palate
Crisp apple and ripe pear mingle with peach and dried apricot, brightened by lemon drops, grapefruit and orange zest. As it opens, oak and cereal notes rise alongside barley sugar and caramel wafers, while pipe tobacco and vanilla weave through the fruit. A marine tang threads the palate, leaving Bruichladdich’s Islay character emerging with elegance.
Finish
Fruit-forward finish: dried apricot from the oak, lemon and kiwi mingle with caramel wafers. A warm, sandy marine note lingers, letting the Islay maturation softly tell its story.
