About Planteray
Planteray was founded in 1999 by Alexandre Gabriel under Maison Ferrand, and for most of its life was known as Plantation Rum before being renamed Planteray in 2024. The brand has built its identity around exploring rum terroirs from across the Caribbean and beyond, working with distillers in places such as Barbados, Jamaica, Fiji and Mauritius rather than limiting itself to one country or one house style.
That international approach became even more significant in 2017, when Maison Ferrand brought Barbados’ historic West Indies Rum Distillery into the family and also became co-owner of National Rums of Jamaica, linking Planteray more directly to distillation as well as blending and maturation.
Double ageing sits at the centre of the range, with tropical maturation followed by a second period of ageing in the Cognac region of France, giving Planteray a style that is often richer, rounder and more polished than many comparable rums. The line-up now stretches from signature bottlings such as XO 20th Anniversary and 3 Stars to newer releases including Cut & Dry, while limited single casks and country-specific bottlings have helped make the brand especially popular with enthusiasts.
The house also ties its modern identity to sustainability and production heritage, highlighting milestones such as West Indies Rum Distillery becoming the first distillery in the Caribbean to achieve Bonsucro Chain of Custody certification.
