Its role in Scotch whisky has largely been behind the scenes, supplying grain whisky for blends rather than building a large single-grain presence of its own, which is one reason older Invergordon bottlings can be especially interesting when they do appear. The distillery also has an unusual footnote in its history: from 1965 to 1977, the malt distillery Ben Wyvis operated on the same site before being demolished, adding another layer to Invergordon’s place in Highland whisky history.
