Boann Marsala Cask Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey
In stock
Boann Distillery initially matured this whiskey in ex-bourbon barrels from Brown-Forman of Kentucky, made from American oak 200-litre (Quercus alba) casks with a heavy char. These casks were filled with a mixed mash bill single pot still distillate, including malted barley, unmalted barley, oats and rye, all Irish-grown and sourced locally.
In collaboration with the Marsala house Cantine De Vinci, a selection of Superiore and Fine Marsala butts made from French oak (Quercus petraea) was sourced.
These casks were filled with bourbon-matured single pot still whiskey, bringing an American oak backbone of vanilla and honey, layered with French oak spice and juicy citrus notes from the Marsala wine.
The label design represents the Irish-grown barley used in the mash bill, alongside a reference to the cornflower, reflected in the colour of the text on the label.
