Tasting Notes

Nose

A festive, spiced aroma unfolds like mulled wine, with cranberry jelly and tart redcurrants. Red bubblegum and red liquorice mingle with aromatic heather, over earthy smoke. Sweet pink wafers and a touch of vanillin oak add a creamy, confection-like lift to the nose.

Palate

Peppery red berries, meaty-salami like notes, crunchy cranberry, brambly red fruits, earthy peat smoke with an aromatic/sweet edge (strawberries on a heather smoke bbq) stewed red plums/rhubarb with a touch of anise and leather here too.

Finish

Pomegranate molasses, smoked rhubarb, peppery oak, crunchy tannins, brambly red fruit, lasting spice and red chilli flake like heat and stewed black fruits galore.

Benriach
(ben-REE-ach) Benriach was founded in 1898 by John Duff beside Longmorn, south of Elgin in Speyside. It opened during the late Victorian whisky boom but was forced to stop distilling in 1900 after the Pattison Crash, leaving the site silent for decades while its floor maltings continued to supply neighbouring Longmorn. Production finally resumed in 1965, bringing Benriach back after one of the longest silent periods in Speyside.
