Auchentoshan Thompson Bros Single Malt Scotch Whisky 28 Year Old · 1998 Vintage
In stock
Distilled at Auchentoshan in 1998 and matured for 28 years, this independently bottled Lowland single malt was drawn from two first-fill wine barriques. The extended wine-cask maturation has created an unusually rich and characterful expression of Auchentoshan, combining sweet cereal, dark fruit and chocolate with lively acidity, herbal complexity and a distinctly savoury finish.
Bottled by Thompson Bros at 45.9% ABV, the release is limited to just 379 bottles. The first-fill wine barriques bring layers of cranberry granola, cherry pastry, citrus peel and oxidised red-wine character, while the mature spirit retains enough freshness and structure to keep the profile balanced. An intriguing and highly individual Auchentoshan for drinkers who enjoy mature Lowland whisky with pronounced wine-cask influence.

Tasting Notes
Nose
Sweet grains, chewy chocolate cereal bars, cranberry granola and trail mix lead into flaky cherry Danish. Mandarin peel and youthful red fruit add brightness, followed by a distinctive hoppy note reminiscent of Citra-led cask ale.
Palate
Crisp wine acidity meets the deeper, nutty character of mature oxidised red wine. Earl Grey tea, bergamot and bitter pomelo develop alongside dried fruit, toasted grains, stone-pine resin and bittersweet European herbal liqueurs.
Finish
Medium to long and increasingly dry, with fenugreek, dried oregano, lightly charred oats and a savoury, textural conclusion.
