This ultra-premium Whiskey is the first release in an exclusive collection of nine Athru whiskies. Each premium Whiskey is presented as a first edition book, inspired by Celtic mythology. Athrú Annacoona is aged in American oak casks and finished in the finest Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks, bringing out notes of salted caramel and dark forest fruit notes and aromas of melted dark chocolate.

The beautiful bottle and packaging artwork recounts the tale of Diarmuid & Grainne, Ireland’s Romeo and Juliet. The lovers elope to be together but are pursued by Finn McCool and his warriors...

Colour

Deep amber with coppery highlights and a mahogany glow.

Nose

Opulent nose of salted caramel over lush American oak, with dark forest fruits—blackberry, plum, fig—unfolding into melted dark chocolate and cacao nibs. Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry lend toffee, dried-fruit sweetness, and a glossy vanilla edge. Velvet, multi-layered, inviting a long, decadent first impression.

Palate

Silky and full-bodied, the palate opens with salted caramel braided through dark forest fruits—blackberry and plum with a hint of cherry—over a cocoa-kissed core. American oak lends vanilla-spice warmth, while the sherry finish lingers with refined sweetness and a long, elegant finish.

Finish

An extended, velvety finish that lingers with salted caramel and dark forest fruit, touched by melted dark chocolate. The sherry cask influence threads through the finale, with toasted oak spice warming the palate and a lasting, wine-kissed glow.

Athru
Athrú was developed by Lough Gill Distillery on the Hazelwood Estate near Sligo, with the Irish name meaning “change” or “transform”. The distillery was established in County Sligo in 2015, with Athrú introduced as its premium Irish single malt whiskey brand while the site’s own spirit was maturing. Early releases drew on sourced Irish single malt, finished and presented under the Athrú name.
