Arran Port Cask Finish Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Arran Port Cask Finish is a rich and fruit-forward Island single malt Scotch whisky produced at Lochranza Distillery on the Isle of Arran. Bottled at a generous 50% ABV, it combines the distillery’s fresh citrus and orchard-fruit character with the darker fruit, gentle tannin and indulgent sweetness developed through carefully controlled Port cask finishing.

The whisky begins with approximately eight years of maturation in traditional oak casks before spending the final months of its development in selected Port casks sourced from an artisan producer in Portugal. The finishing period is closely monitored to ensure that the influence of the fortified wine complements rather than overwhelms the distinctive Arran spirit. The Port casks add layers of ripe berries, dried fruit, warming spice and sweet oak while preserving the whisky’s bright, clean character.

The nose opens with vanilla spice and ripe citrus, followed by dried fruit, roasted nuts and baked apple. On the palate, cinnamon-spiced apple and strawberry jam are joined by red berries, ripe stone fruit and a subtle touch of oak tannin. The finish is long, smooth and gently sweet, allowing Arran’s characteristic barley sweetness to emerge beneath the richer fruit and spice.

Arran Port Cask Finish can be enjoyed neat as a rich after-dinner whisky, while a small amount of water reveals additional citrus, vanilla and red-fruit character. Its combination of robust strength, approachable sweetness and carefully balanced Port influence also makes it an excellent partner for mature cheeses, dark chocolate or fruit-based desserts.
